Very unusual day

August 24th, 2011

Goodbye sweet home, we had good times here. Feels sad. I will miss this view. Packing ahead. Moving ahead. And search for a new place. We have one idea.

When I shot this image couple days ago with my phone, there was a white pigeon walking around the roof of this small round building in front. They are really rare here. You can see white dot on the roof. The bird stayed there walking round and round for a very long time and I just couldn’t stop looking.

But on Sunday we had – Day of Island

August 23rd, 2011

There is something mystical about people from Iceland I met, they all look like I should know them from sometimes… It was in every sense a very positive day, full of people and music. I recommend to check out the young rock band For a Minor Reflection, they performed after the opening in the museum courtyard. Beautiful!

The exhibition Icelandic Contemporary Design will be open in the museum until 4.09.2011.

Intervjuu näituse kuraatori Elisabet V. Ingvarsdottiriga (sorry only in Estonian!)

August 3rd, 2011

Summer is becoming to look like more then early fall already. We are about to move out from our dear apartment. Constant search for a new one. Limits. Again limits. No time. Exhibition deadlines. Work. Little daughter complaining for having too little time with us. She misses Hiiumaa. I wish we could enjoy this calm sea again, all together.

THE IDEAL LANDSCAPE

July 16th, 2011

Our collaboration

Kristi Paap

Anneli Tammik

Maria Valdma

2.07.-22.07. THE IDEAL LANDSCAPE in Evald Okas Museum, Haapsalu, Estonia. Kristi Paap, Kaire Rannik, Anneli Tammik, Berit Teeäär, Ketli Tiitsar, Maria Valdma. Contemporary jewellery.

Six artists present a joint exhibition to show their recent individual works as well the experimental collaboration. The unity of the works transforms into a kind of ideal landscape which may be defined here firstly as a modern art field, where authors relate themselves with their works. Secondly the landscape can be understood as the concurrence of the materials, colors, shapes, and structures reflected in the artists work. Certainly, the ideal landscape is different and special for every creative person – it is more a condition than anything visually perceptual.
How can one describe the similarities between the works in this seemingly different-looking group and what distinguishes them from the other artist works and schools of thought in the field of art jewellery? One feature is the focus on people (often the author himself), his immediate surroundings, and his feelings: household, homesickness, the bad and the good, birth and death, and his own reflection … Secondly – the idea ruling over matter. Despite the diversity of materials – wood, silver, birchbark, rubber, copper, plastic, gold, textiles, etc. – there is no place for apparency.
Despite the fact that for years the game on the edge of the applied and visual arts, has been a driving characteristic for these creators of the ideal landscape, it has also been self-explanatory for them to handle art jewellery as a protest against the traditional forms. The question is not about the form. Without wishing to agree with either side, the confrontation is an attempt to oppose those, who’s convulsive strive to maintain the elitist conception of the jewellery art further deepens the understanding of borders in art.
The ideal landscape is a mix of conditions and “images” – it is different for each author and for each viewer.
